I'm thinking with two wrecks last year a back protector is probably a good investment

new enough has a teknic one for really cheap but it looks to big for me ($35)

any suggestions

i think the astar tech back protector looks good...it comes in different sizes

Yeah a back protector can certainly be a good investment for better protection, a lot more effective than the backpad if thats all you have in your jacket/back pocket.

I'd stay away from the one size fits all, you gotta find the correct size for your torso.

A-stars are a good choice, I believe they have the tech and also the race tech, and a fair price.

Some knox stuff has a decent price range too.  Of course you can get into some more racier styles, knox, spidi, bohn (really really good), dianese (not bad price) and so on.

Just in the last March issue of Motorcyclists there's a decent 2page review on some of these back protectors.

I have an extra back protector that's collecting dust.  You can try it out - if it fits, you can have it.  That'll give us a good excuse to get together.
As for wrecks... hopefully you got your 2 out of your system and you won't have any in 2007.  Although, you're still on that CBR!  During the learning/improving process, I think most people will wreck... unless your name is Ian (I think he made a deal with the devil, and that's why he's never wrecked on the track).

I definitely wear a back protector.  I think that if anyone gets under a 1:15 at the Beave, then they should be wearing a back protector.  My spare has the name "Reflex Gear" on it.  Although, after checking it out, I think I broke it a little in the big crash of '05... but it appears as though it will still get the job done.

BMW seems to make a pretty nice one, and since i won some money at poker last night I had Paul order one in.

I'm going to check it out

Tom I'll give yours a look too, but since it was in that bad wreck and is damaged I think I would rather have a new one.

I picked up my BMW "back protector 2" today

first impressions:
it seems to be very nice, it is well built and is fairly comfortable.
it fits under my leathers without issue

We will see in April how I like it while riding

Personally I use a Dainese back protector, the one which also protects your shoulder blades.
I was highsided in Spain in 2009, and flew 2 meters up in the air and landed on my back. And that Dainese protector without a doubt saved me from a broken back.

I highly recommend Dainese.
